Brielle Januszewski

2020. Current position: PhD student at Yale University

Brielle is a triple-major senior in Barrett working towards her degrees in Environmental Engineering, Biological Sciences (Conservation Biology & Ecology), and Political Science along with a minor in French and a certificate in International Studies. She has been the Project Manager of the ASU ASCE Concrete Canoe team for the past two years, an officer of Fulton Ambassadors for two years, and an officer of Chi Epsilon for three years. Some of her other activities beyond research include GCSP, Tau Beta Pi, SSEBE Ambassadors, and Phi Beta Kappa. In her free time she likes to hike, paint, and play with her dogs.

Her research focuses on the toxicity of nanomaterials. Nanoparticles are important because of their applicability in many different fields, especially due to their anti-microbial properties. Mixtures of nanomaterials present unique possibilities in their antimicrobial functions because of the ability of the toxins to have synergistic, antagonistic, or additive relationships. The purpose of this project is to develop dose-toxicity curves of nanomaterial mixtures, specifically silver-doped graphene oxide, for bacterial communities. This work will aid environmental engineers in creating in-depth risk assessments.

Recently, Brielle became a recipient of the 2020 NSF GRFP. Congrats Brielle!

Currently, Brielle is pursuing her graduate degree at Yale University.
