Description of Oscillatoria agardhii (Gomont)
Isolated from the Verde River below Bartlett Lake (R7)
- Trichome and straight to slightly curved often forming a bundle or thallus
- Trichomes vary from brown/dark-red to dark green/blue-green in color
- Cells not distinctly placed from one another and not constricted at crosswalls
- Cells granulated at the septa
- Quadrate cells mostly shorter than long (2.5-4 µm)
- End cells convex, but sometimes bluntly conical or pointed
- Possess convex calyptra, seldom capitate
- Trichomes range from 4-6 µm in diameter
- Sheath absent
- Exhibit gliding movements

- Trichome and straight to slightly curved
- Often form a gelatinous or leathery thallus attached at bottom
- Trichomes brilliant blue-green or olive green in color
- Cells not distinctly separated, but may show some constriction at crosswalls
- Rarely quadrate, cells 1-2 times broader than long (1-3 µm long)
- Cylindrical cells with end cells rounded or oval
- Trichomes range from 1-2.5 µm in diameter
- Firm sheath present, sometimes agglutinated, sometimes thin and colorless
- Trichomes non-motile
