The position is supported by an upcoming multi-investigator, multi-institution (with Univ. of Norte Dame) grant aimed at studying the fate of PFOAs in incineration processes as part of a new SERDP project. At ASU, the post-doc will work closely with, and help mentor, a co-funded PhD student and the work will involve developing methods and protocols for the capture and characterization of fluorinated compounds in gas-phase exhaust streams during thermal\/incineration treatment of PFAS laden materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The candidate would work closely with Profs. <a href=\"https:\/\/isearch.asu.edu\/profile\/755865\">Herckes<\/a> (Molecular Sciences) and\n<a href=\"https:\/\/faculty.engineering.asu.edu\/westerhoff\/\">Westerhoff<\/a> (Environmental\/chemical\nEngineering) in joint laboratory neighborhoods in a state of the art building (<a href=\"https:\/\/tours.asu.edu\/tempe\/interdisciplinary-science-technology-4\">ISTB4<\/a>).&nbsp;\nThe position would also involve working with graduate students and collaborators\nat other universities and the sponsor organization.&nbsp; Therefore, excellent\ncommunication skills are needed.&nbsp; The expectation will be to publish peer reviewed\narticles as a first author, although extensive collaborative papers are also a\nnatural consequence.&nbsp;There will be opportunities to assist in proposal\ndevelopment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Interested candidates should send to Prof. Pierre Herckes (<a href=\"mailto:herckes@asu.edu\">herckes@asu.edu<\/a>) <\/strong>a resume, list of 3 potential references with contact information, and a 1-2 page cover letter describing how their interests match with the above description.\u00a0 The project start date is May 1, 2020, but our schedule can accommodate earlier or later start dates as well for excellent candidates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Applications will be reviewed starting January 1<sup>st<\/sup>,\n2020 and continue until the position is filled with an excellent candidate. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Arizona State University is a VEVRAA Federal Contractor and\nan Equal Opportunity\/Affirmative Action Employer.
