Welcome to CMAT Lab

At the Complex Mixing and Advanced Turbulence lab, we understand and predict the action of turbulence in fluids for aerospace, maritime, atmospheric, energy, and chemical engineering applications.

Research activities of CMAT Lab involve:

We do these on a fundamental level so that the science we discover enables applied research on wide range of applications!

Want to be part of CMAT Lab?

There is an open post-doctoral opening starting Fall 2025 in experimental turbulence research.
All students interested in joining the lab should read this first before reaching out.

Wall-bounded Turbulence

Where it occurs?

Airplanes, Ships/Submarines,
Gas and Wind Turbines, Atmospheric Phenomena, etc.

Why we study it?

  • Influences aerodynamic handling, drag characteristics and, heat-transfer
  • Determine atmospheric scalar transport (pollutants, aerosols), cloud dynamics, etc.

Sponsors

Turbulent Mixing and Reactions

Where it occurs?

Chemical industrial applications, Jet engines (Fuel/Air),
Geophysical phenomena, etc.

Why we study it?

  • Dictate the efficiencies of engines
  • Affect marine life via nutrient and pollutant transport
  • Control reaction progress in chemical industrial applications

I am an old man now, and when I die and go to heaven there are two matters on which I hope for enlightenment. One is quantum electrodynamics, and the other is the turbulent motion of fluids. And about the former I am rather optimistic.
