Media and engineering
Engineering and art intersect when combining principles from media and engineering. Engineers need to engage their creative sides when finding new solutions to create art, identify deepfake media or develop extended reality technology such as virtual reality, or VR, and augmented reality, or AR.
Electrical engineering faculty members in the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University are conducting media and engineering research in various ways, including adding realistic smell to VR, improving the ability of artificial intelligence to detect objects and their surroundings in images and more.
Suren Jayasuriya
Assistant Professor
School of Arts Media and Engineering
Jayasuriya’s research focuses on designing new types of computational cameras, systems, and visual computing algorithms. Our lab website can be found here: https://sites.google.com/asu.edu/imaging-lyceum
Robert LiKamWa
Associate Professor
School of Arts Media and Engineering
LiKamWa directs Meteor Studio, which explores the research and design of software and hardware for mobile Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, Mixed Reality, and visual computing systems for storytelling and sensemaking.
Pavan Turaga
Director and Professor
School of Arts Media and Engineering
Their research in machine learning has resulted in new algorithms for geometrical analysis of feature-spaces which leads to increased robustness in several end-applications.
