Faculty onboarding
The Fulton Schools provides a comprehensive onboarding program for new faculty in their first year at ASU.
The Fulton Schools Faculty Onboarding Program provides essential support, resources, and guidance to help faculty navigate the complexities of their new roles. The faculty onboarding program consists of the following five components, which align with feedback received from faculty hired in recent years about what would have been most helpful to them.
- Orientation and welcome events.
- School/unit level onboarding.
- Fulton Schools values-driven professional development.
- Community-building and mentoring.
- Onboarding resources.
By offering structured orientation, mentorship, and ongoing professional development, onboarding programs foster a sense of belonging, enhance teaching and research effectiveness, and promote alignment with institutional values and culture.

- School/unit director.
- Relevant program chair(s) (teaching assignments/interests).
- Business team lead (purchasing).
- Research team – T/TT faculty only (conversation around startup account for tenured/tenure track faculty).
- Facilities lead and lab manager (for information about supporting research lab setup / operations)
- HR lead (hiring students for research or teaching support).
- Advising lead (point of contact for supporting students with challenges).
- Communications team lead (getting the word out for your great accomplishments).
- IT lead (technology set-up and solutions).
Identifying important contacts within one’s School/Unit is a great conversation point for initial meetings with NFAC representatives.

Fulton Schools values-driven professional development
Fulton Schools provides professional development workshops throughout the academic year that are aligned with the Fulton School values and focused on key faculty competencies that support preparation for successful promotion (and tenure, where applicable). These workshops are an ideal opportunity to meet and engage with colleagues within your faculty cohort and beyond.
- Fulton Schools Values course: All new faculty are required to complete the the asynchronous Canvas training course on the Fulton Schools Values.
- Professional development workshops: Newly hired Assistant Professors, Assistant Teaching Professors, and Instructors are required to attend Fulton Schools-Values aligned workshops. Requirements are designated separately based on role (see graphic below). All newly hired faculty are welcome and encouraged to attend workshops beyond those that are required for their role.

Values-driven workshops for faculty
Workshops are offered from a variety of groups within the Fulton Schools (and beyond) across the academic year. For most workshops, all Fulton Schools faculty are welcome to participate in workshops that they find interesting and/or helpful. New faculty will receive direct messages about each of the workshops as date / time / registration information becomes available.
