Faculty onboarding

The Fulton Schools provides a comprehensive onboarding program for new faculty in their first year at ASU.

The Fulton Schools Faculty Onboarding Program provides essential support, resources, and guidance to help faculty navigate the complexities of their new roles. The faculty onboarding program consists of the following five components, which align with feedback received from faculty hired in recent years about what would have been most helpful to them.

  • Orientation and welcome events.
  • School/unit level onboarding.
  • Fulton Schools values-driven professional development.
  • Community-building and mentoring.
  • Onboarding resources.

By offering structured orientation, mentorship, and ongoing professional development, onboarding programs foster a sense of belonging, enhance teaching and research effectiveness, and promote alignment with institutional values and culture.

Fulton Schools values-driven professional development

Fulton Schools provides professional development workshops throughout the academic year that are aligned with the Fulton School values and focused on key faculty competencies that support preparation for successful promotion (and tenure, where applicable). These workshops are an ideal opportunity to meet and engage with colleagues within your faculty cohort and beyond.

  1. Fulton Schools Values course: All new faculty are required to complete the the asynchronous Canvas training course on the Fulton Schools Values.
  2. Professional development workshops: Newly hired Assistant Professors, Assistant Teaching Professors, and Instructors are required to attend Fulton Schools-Values aligned workshops. Requirements are designated separately based on role (see graphic below). All newly hired faculty are welcome and encouraged to attend workshops beyond those that are required for their role.
