Research Topic:

Immunomodulatory Trophoblast-Based Cell Therapy

This project uses the only physiologically normal example of immune tolerance toward allogeneic tissue – placental pregnancy – as a roadmap to establish tolerance toward transplanted tissue. We generate artificial placentas in tissue-mimicking three dimensional culture environments to probe the immunomodulatory capabilities of trophoblasts, the immune effector cell of the placenta.
