EGR218: Materials and Manufacturing Processes
How does an engineering idea become a real product? EGR 218 connects the science of materials with the realities of manufacturing, taking students from atomic structure and material properties to material selection, processing, assembly, and design for manufacturing. At the heart of the course is the Forward Engineering Project (with past project examples shown below). Student teams conceive a new, functional product for the ASU Polytechnic campus, engineer its materials and manufacturing processes, and ultimately build and demonstrate a working product. The project is supported through our collaboration with the ASU Chandler Innovation Center (ACIC), where students gain access to a 17,000-square-foot fabrication shop and professional facilities for rapid prototyping, machining, metalworking, electronics, finishing, and more.

EGR216: Engineering Electrical Fundamentals
How do equations on paper become electrical signals you can see, measure, and control? EGR 216 bridges electrical theory with engineering practice, taking students from fundamental DC and AC circuits to diodes, RLC circuits, filters, frequency response, and operational amplifiers. Students learn not only to analyze electrical systems mathematically, but also to experimentally verify and interpret their behavior. A defining feature of the course is its hands-on laboratory experience. Every week, students turn concepts from the lecture into real circuits using Analog Discovery Boards, building, testing, and measuring circuits while comparing experimental results with theory and simulation. From simple resistor networks to RLC resonance, frequency response, and operational amplifiers, the labs progressively transform circuit equations into observable electrical behavior.
