Nanoscale Phononics, Photonics, and Polaritonic Processes

Nanoscale optical, electronic, phononic and vibrational properties of materials are critical for the development of many future technologies in energy and information systems. However, understanding these responses down to the nanometer level remains a challenge, for example, the spatial resolution of conventional optical probes is often limit by the wavelength of visible of IR photons. We are using small focused electron beam to probe these excitations in solids down to the atomic level to gain an understanding how structure influences these important materials properties.
