Ensuring stability, durability and innovation
Our faculty are experts in computational mechanics, structural engineering, structural stability, simulation of complex systems, mechanics of composite materials, development of new construction materials, durability of building materials, materials in civil infrastructure, novel cement-based materials and design, microstructure and mechanics, sustainable materials and computational materials science.
Researchers are also known for structural and solid mechanics, finite element analysis, design optimization, high-performance software development, experimental and theoretical mechanics, damage mechanics and data-driven structural engineering.
Other research interests include nondestructive testing of structures and materials using infrared thermography, ground penetrating radar, ultrasound and digital tap testing, fracture mechanics and multi-scale material characterization.

Dr. Udaya B. Halabe is a Teaching Professor at SSEBE, Arizona State University (ASU). He is currently serving as the Friends of Civil and Environmental Engineering (FOCEE) Capstone Faculty Fellow at SSEBE-ASU.
Keith Hjelmstad

Hjelmstad’s research includes computational mechanics, earthquake engineering, stability of structures, optimization, structural identification, nondestructive evaluation of large structures.
Christian Hoover

Barzin Mobasher

Narayanan Neithalath

Neithalath’s research interests are on decarbonization of concrete through innovations in cement manufacturing, as well as through sustainable cementitious materials and construction processes such as 3D printing
Subramaniam Rajan

Rajan’s areas of expertise include finite element-based design optimization, parallel computations, constitutive material modeling, and laboratory testing of materials and structural systems.
