Getting started at the Fulton Schools

Welcome to Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering!
If you’re new to ASU or to the Fulton Schools, this page is your guide to how space, safety and research support work across our facilities.

The Fulton Schools supports more than 1 million square feet of space across 20+ buildings, including over 300,000 square feet of research and instructional labs. Knowing how the system works will save time, reduce delays and help you avoid common issues.

How facilities support works at ASU

ASU uses a shared, multi-level system for managing space, safety and facilities:

University level: ASU FDM and EHS

  • Facilities Development and Management (FDM) oversees buildings, construction, utilities, repairs and custodial services.
  • Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) provides safety policies, training and compliance enforcement.

College level: Fulton Schools Facilities and Safety

  • We act as your liaison and project coordinator.
  • Our team handles planning, strategic projects, safety consulting and research support services (RSS).

School level: lab managers and facilities managers

  • Your first point of contact for any non-emergency lab or space need.
  • Supports space assignments, furniture, safety and FDM coordination.

Your first 10 steps as a new faculty member

A good rule of thumb: If it plugs into more than a 120V outlet — talk to us first.

This one rule prevents most avoidable delays, safety issues and costs. Your lab manager and the FSE Facilities team can help confirm power, infrastructure and space requirements before you purchase or install anything.

  1. Meet your school’s lab manager or facilities manager.
  2. Request building and lab access (ISAAC and keys).
  3. Review safety expectations and training requirements.
  4. Confirm your startup lab space.
  5. Schedule any equipment deliveries.
  6. Review your power, HVAC and utility needs.
  7. Follow equipment procurement best practices.
  8. Understand timelines for infrastructure or renovations.
  9. Bookmark the FDM service request portal.
  10. Connect with RSS for lab setup, fabrication or equipment help.
