Welcome to the Optical Biosensing Lab

We develop biosensors and bioanalytical instrumentation for biomedical research, drug discovery, and disease diagnosis at Arizona State University.

Our research focuses on label-free optical and electrochemical sensing and functional imaging of chemical and biological systems, from small molecules and single proteins to viruses, bacteria, and living cells. We develop methods to measure molecular interactions and cellular dynamics, identify bacteria and assess antimicrobial susceptibility, and detect blood biomarkers.

The lab is led by Dr. Shaopeng Wang, an associate professor in the School of Biological and Health Systems Engineering and the Biodesign Center for Bioelectronics and Biosensors. Dr. Wang also serves as associate director of the center and as an associate professor and course director in the John Shufeldt School of Medicine and Medical Engineering.

Learn more about our research, browse our publications, or find information for prospective students.
